armchair2ARMCHAIR ACTIVISM

There is so much that you can do to join in the campaign for animals, even in the comfort of your own home. For example, writing or emailing your local MP, sending a letter to your local paper and getting involved online are all examples of action for animals.

SAY 'NO' TO   ALL   ANIMAL   CIRCUSES IN YORK

Ban ALL animal circuses from York   Council LandI dont want to go

Since April 2007, York city council have encouraged 2   horse circuses onto our land.

Since 1992 York Council policy has been to ban Circuses except those with Horses and Dogs, but the council   are flouting their own   rules and   most people   in York now want the policy changed so that ALL animal circuses are banned from council land.

CAPS   say that “Horses and ponies are gregarious animals - extremely social. After being unloaded from their horse boxes or transporters they are often confined in tents, separated from their companions by stalls, which do not allow socialising or mutual grooming. Often horse will be tethered or kept in tiny pens for the entire time they are not performing or rehearsing. If exercise enclosures are provided, these are generally very small - it is unlikely a horse would gallop or really exercise in one. Behavioural abnormalities have been observed in circus horses.

Although, performing dogs could be kept as pets, they are often kept in cages on tour or tied up when they are not performing.”

Help put a stop to this now by contacting York City Council to express your concerns, and your disgust that in 2007 these circuses are still allowed on our land.

Please remember that we have nothing to gain at all from being abusive and offensive and may set us back rather than take us forward, so please be polite in all your contact.
